Frequently asked questions

'“Pilates truly is the perfect blend of relaxation and exercise in one.”
-
a client's quote we can truly relate to.

What is Pilates?
Pilates is a low-impact exercise system created by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900s. It focuses on strengthening the core, improving flexibility, and helping with posture. The exercises are all about controlled movements, breathing, and building strength from the inside out.

Pilates helps improve core strength, flexibility, and posture. It can also increase your balance and coordination, reduce your risk of injury, and even help with stress relief. Plus, it’s great for toning your muscles without putting a lot of strain on your body.

Does your age or fitness level make a difference?
Not at all. Pilates is for all fitness levels and ages: it truly is accessible. For beginners, we offer beginner classes to help you start off well and focus on getting the technique right. Our teachers are here to support you with kindness and clear explanations. You'll build strength and flexibility over time, so don't worry if you're not a pro right away.

What’s the difference between Pilates and yoga?
Both Pilates and yoga are awesome for improving flexibility and strength, but they have different focuses. Pilates is more centered around building core strength and improving posture, with controlled movements. Yoga, on the other hand, involves poses, breathing, and often has a more meditative component to it. It’s all about what you’re looking for in your workout.

How often should I do Pilates?
If you want to see the best results, aim for 2-3 times a week. Just like everything in life, consistency is key, and the more you practice, the stronger and more flexible you'll become. However, you'll still feel the benefits even if you practice once a week. Do what works best for you and fits into your schedule. Taking a moment for yourself is worth it and something to be proud of, no matter how often you practice.

Can Pilates help with back pain?
Yes, Pilates is great for people dealing with back pain. It focuses on strengthening the core and improving posture, which can help take the pressure off your back. But if you have serious or chronic pain, it's always good to check with a doctor first.

What should I wear to a Pilates class?
Go for comfortable, stretchy clothes that allow you to move freely. Most people wear leggings or athletic shorts with a fitted top. Just make sure whatever you wear isn’t too baggy, as you want to be able to move without anything getting in the way.

What muscles does Pilates target?
Pilates primarily works the ‘Powerhouse’ our core (abs, back, and pelvic muscles) but also targets other muscles like the glutes, legs, and arms. It’s all about creating balance and strength throughout your entire body, using slow, controlled movements.

How long does it take to see results from Pilates?
Honestly, we personally felt the difference after just the 1st or 3rd session - it’s hard to remember exactly. Mainly, we noticed improvements in posture and overall well-being. For strength and flexibility, if you’re consistent, you’ll likely start seeing progress after about 4-6 weeks. Results vary from person to person, but with regular practice, you’ll notice stronger muscles, better posture, and increased flexibility over time.
